Trust Your Hunches

It’s a new month and you know what that means. It’s time to continue our chakra climb and move on to the 6th chakra, the brow or third-eye chakra. Known in Sanskrit as Ajna, this chakra is located in the center of the head slightly above eye level and it’s main function is seeing and intuition. The color of this chakra is indigo, the seed sound or mantra is Om and the element is light.

The third eye chakra is responsible to what we refer to as “the sixth sense”. The chakra connects us to our internal intuitions and is responsible for the sharp senses, the ability to read the future and receive non-verbal messages. Through the third eye we communicate with the world and can even receive messages from the past and from the future. It grants us our sense of observation, both in our spiritual state and our physical world.200534950-001

Even though the third eye is blind, it has a deep vision because it’s directed inside. Anja governs and connects the conscious and the unconscious mind. Tapping into this chakra we begin to listen and can more fully appreciate and trust our instincts when it comes to making decisions. When our energy channels are open and we can see, feel and live with in daily ease of trusting our gut – this is being in harmony and balance within this chakra.

When our 6th chakra is in balance we experience high mental ability, we are able to separate between reality and imagination and best combine logic and emotion. When we live with a balanced third eye chakra, we experience overall good health, clear thinking and focus. A healthy third eye chakra will encourage intuition, empathy of others and build trust in oneself. When the chakra is unbalanced we experience fatigue, day dreaming, sleep problems, lack of assertiveness, inability to listen to others, and may even often feel disoriented.
To help strengthen the Ajna chakra you can try third eye visualizations, meditation, eat purple and indigo foods such as cabbage, blueberries, plums, eggplant, and grapes to name a few. Even wearing purple clothing will help channel more trust and balance to this chakra, so before you head to the market to pick up your purple produce don’t forget to toss on your favorite indigo scarf!
